Toyota has unveiled the face-lifted MY2017 Vios sedan for the Thailand market. Based on the same Toyota B platform, the new Thai-spec Vios borrows styling cues from the facelift variant launched exclusively for the Chinese market. Prices for the new model ranges from 609,000 baht (INR 11.76 lakhs) to 789,000 baht (INR 15.23 lakhs) in Thailand.
Design wise, the front fascia of the Vios has undergone comprehensive makeover, thanks to the redesigned ‘V’ shaped upper grille flanked by stunningly-new projector headlamps incorporating LED DRLs and chrome accents. The large hexagonal lower grille with black finish and an yet-another LED strip is catchy, giving the car a muscular styling. The side profile looks largely unchanged, except for the 5-spoke alloy pattern, while the rear fascia is dominated by restyled tail lamps and chrome trim on the boot lid.
The Indian-spec Toyota Vios is likely to share engine options from the Etios and Corolla Altis
On the inside, the 2017 Vios features simple-yet-elegant dual-tone dashboard and leather upholstery in the top-end ‘S’ trim, with a protruding 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system atop the center console. The base trims come with all black interiors. The fit and finish of the cabin appears great, as does the stylish instrumentation and 3-spoke steering wheel with audio buttons.
Toyota offers a 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine that pumps out a max power of 108 hp at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm. This engine is a flexi-fuel type that can run on a mix of petrol and ethanol. It is mated to a standard 7-speed super CVT-i transmission. Safety technologies for the Vios range includes ABS with EBD, dual airbags, brake assist, and VSC stability control system.
The Toyota Vios has been all but official confirmed for the Indian market, along with its hatchback sibling Yaris. The sedan (pre-facelift) has been spotted testing here many times in the past, although it is still unclear which model or specification is destined for India. It is very much likely that the Indian-spec Vios, which is to be locally assembled at TKM’s plant, will mimic the one sold in Thailand.
